Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare the packaging process for operation
- Check packaging requirements according to workplace procedures and food safety requirements
- Confirm availability of required materials according to job specifications
- Confirm availability of services according to job specifications
- Wear appropriate personal protective clothing and ensure correct fit
- Conduct pre-start checks of packaging equipment, including checking that hygiene and sanitation standards are met and all safety guards are in place
- Set the packaging process to meet production requirements
- Operate and monitor the packaging process
- Start up the packaging process according to workplace procedures and safety requirements
- Monitor equipment and control points to confirm performance is maintained within specification
- Confirm packages meet specifications
- Maintain stock flow to and from packer process within production requirements
- Identify, rectify and/or report out-of-specification product, process and equipment performance
- Complete size and product changeovers in accordance with batch instructions
- Shut down packaging process
- Shut down the system safely according to workplace procedures
- Clean and maintain equipment to meet the cleaning schedule and procedural requirements
- Collect, treat and dispose of or recycle waste generated by both the process and cleaning procedures
- Record workplace information in the appropriate format according to workplace requirements
